Sunday at the Park

Since my husband is working overseas from the past 4 years. our Sundays are usually spent at home watching TV , sleeping, or just staying at the rooftop. But today was different.Right after lunch, I received a call from a Filipina friend, that her family is having a picnic in Minar-e Pakistan. That park is just a 5 minute walk from our house, so I decided to join them.Iqbal Park is not even a 500 meter distance from our residence, but in my 7 years stay here in lahore, I never went there. It's a tourist spot.People from all over Pakistan came here to visit this place and it's very crowded especially on Sundays and public holidays.Minar-e Pakistan is a tall minaret in Iqbal Park , built in commemoration of the Lahore Resolution. The minaret reflects a blend of Mughal and modern architecture, and is constructed on the site where on March 23, 1940, seven years before the formation of Pakistan, the Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution demanding the creation of Pakistan.

Basant Festival

Basant marks the beginning of spring. It is usually celebrated with garden parties, rooftop soirees and kite flying.People of Lahore and out of town enthusiasts wear clothes usually of green and yellow colours to usher spring and bid farewell to the frosts and fogs of winter.Pakistanis flock to Lahore to watch the "kite fighting".But every year, deaths are reported during this joyous day. There are kiteflyers who fell off the roof, children hit by cars as they ran down the streets looking towards the sky watching the kites. Here's some photos to show you how our neighborhood looks like at this moment. It's 4am here in Lahore.

The celebrations started last night and will end tonight.I will post more photos tonight.Happy Sunday everyone!

My Indonesian Friend SYLVI

Two years ago, I was searching in Friendster for foreign wives here in Pakistan, hoping to find another Filipina.I came across Sylvi's profile, so I sent her message and she replied. We became friends online and became phonepals. When my husband came from overseas, I asked him if I can meet Sylvi . We(I,hubby & kids)went to Sylvi's place.Last September 2008, her family went to Indonesia to settle for good.We never lost contact.we always send SMS to each other and lately I found out that she's doing well as an ACTRESS in Indonesian drama MUSLIMAH.So I'm requesting my Indonesian friends who happens to drop by here to please support her.To SYLVI, I wish you good luck.Hope you'll make it big in Indonesian Films too.

Photo of the Day

This is not a new breed of cow.The farmer who owns it, applied/sprayed colours on it so it will look attractive for buyers who are looking for sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Adha.

Photo of the Day

I can't simply resist the beauty of this butterfly which I find very unique during my visit to the Butterfly Park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 10 years ago.

I Don't Know WHY??????

These last few days, I'm deeply thinking why my brain is not working.I want to rekindle the passion for writing in myself. When I was in highschool and college, I 'm always a staff member in our school paper....either I was a writer or a section editor. As soon as our Chief Editor gave our assignments on what topic to write for the next publication, in less than an hour I can accomplished my assignment------ideas just start flooding in my brain. Now, I don't know why I'm having "brain drain"(Is this the right term?).Is it because I'm already 40?Is this the effect of my previous 3 major operations?Or maybe, for the last 10 years, I'm thinking only of what to cook, how to take care of children, the laundry and house cleaning, as what housewives usually do?Another thing is my "English".I'm not confident enough now about grammar and sentence composition, because I seldom speak english.Having spent 7 years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and being able to learn Bahasa Melayu and staying for 6and a half years here in Pakistan , with my husband's family who only speaks Urdu and Punjabi.I'm only able to converse in English while talking to my husband on the phone, but that is also very seldom because phone calls to Dubai are quiet expensive and during our Yahoo Messenger Chats.I can't also talk to my sons in english because they will just look at me and laugh.Anyhow, I'm just hoping that the next few days, ideas will just keep flowing from my mind so I can always update my blog.
